Read the enthusiastic reviews at the individual book pages!

WITH A KICK: A new and enticing ice cream franchise, with a unique blend of full flavour, mischief and romance. Patrick and Lee are struggling to make a success of their alcoholic ice cream shop in the centre of tourist London. At the same time, their business partnership may take a turn towards the personal – if either of them can find the time and nerve to go for it! Meanwhile, they cater to the wild and wonderful range of customers in the area, many of whom have their own romantic agenda. Will ice cream be the final ingredient they’re all looking for?

Each story is a self-contained romance, but will follow the history of the shop throughout.

PLUCK AND PLAY: Curtis is a cheery young entrepreneur, secretly licking his wounds after being beaten up by his ex-lover. Handsome cowboy Riley is stranded in London without money. My Two Pennies ' Worth

This audio collection is the second in the With a Kick series. It collects another two of Clare London’s stories. It actually stars two of my favourite books from the series, Pluck and Play and Double Scoop.

Pluck and Play stars the singing cowboy Riley and everyone’s favourite go to guy, Curtis. It’s a sweet heartfelt story with two absolutely adorable MCs. As well as their story we get a lovely catch up with all the lads as Riley gathers everyone at With a Kick.
Double Scoop is the book every With a Kick fan waited (im)patiently for: Patrick and Lee’s story. And boy was it worth it. I love these two and it was all the sweeter considering how long they’d been dancing around each other (the seven previous books) even if the getting there was an excruciating mess of miscommunication.
These books have a lovely British feel and wit that comes across perfectly in Joel’s narration. As usual Joel’s performance is enthusiastic, with a wide range of different accents and voices.
Highly recommended

About the Author

Clare London took her pen name from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with her other day job as an accountant.

She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with award-winning novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic, and sexy characters.

Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter-three stage and plenty of other projects in mind… she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home.

Review Tour - Cowboy Seeks Husband by Leta Blake & Indra Vaughn

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK

Length: 94,000 words approx.

Cover Design: Dar Albert

Blurb

Walker Reed's Louisiana cattle ranch is in debt after costly repairs from hurricane damage. To get the money, his family schemes to make Walker the star of a new bachelor reality series: Queer Seeks Spouse. How hard can it be to fake interest in a dozen handsome men for a few weeks in exchange for enough money to solve all of their problems?

Roan Carmichael never got his Masters degree after his mother was diagnosed with cancer. With medical bills piling up, and a costly experimental treatment available, Roan signs on to be a suitor on Queer Seeks Spouse. While he hates having to leave his sick mother long enough to win the cash for her treatment, he's willing to do whatever it takes.

Can two men who are just in it for the money fake their way into real and lasting love?

Cowboy Seeks Husband, the latest book by Vespertine authors Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn, features a cowboy, a hipster, opposites attract, steamy scenes, and heart tugging moments that will leave you wanting more.

My Two Pennies' Worth

This is a fun story. Based on those reality TV shows where everybody is 'interacting naturally, but you know behind the scenes there is machinations and reshoots and scripting. It leaves a situation ripe for misunderstandings and manipulation by third parties, especially those pesky tv folks (all of whom were absolutely ghastly). Both Walker and Roan were only in it for the money but the connection was there for them from the beginning. Love the scene where they go noodling :D

A really enjoyable, light and fluffy read.

Excerpt

“We’re going what?”

“Noodling.” Walker looked far too calm. And smug. Roan figured this probably heralded danger in brooding southern cowboys.

“And I need these.” Roan held up the waterproof bib overalls.

Walker smirked. He had his arms folded over his chest and was leaning against the doorjamb of the kitchen. Roan had been cornered there by Walker and John while making sour apple tea. “Technically you don’t, but I’m sure you’ll want to wear them.”

Roan narrowed his eyes. “But that means we’re going into the water. I know what lives in your water down here. Alligators. And venomous snakes. I googled.”

“Now, why would you do that?” Walker dramatically slapped his forehead, then leaned in closer as if to share a secret. Roan leaned in too, drawn to Walker’s firm, muscled body and cheerful brown eyes, despite his probable imminent death on this so-called date. “Here’s the thing: gators aren’t that aggressive really. You probably won’t even see one. They want to stay as far away from you as you do from them.”

“Really?”

“No. But it makes it easier to get in the water if you tell yourself that.”

Roan stared at him.

“But, seriously, I’m not scared of the gators, and if there was a real, true danger, you know they wouldn’t let us anywhere near the water.”

Roan swallowed hard. The morning light from the kitchen window highlighted the little wrinkles at the edges of Walker’s eyes. Probably from squinting into fields all day. The man even smelled like fresh-cut grass and fresh air.

“As for the snakes, yeah…well.” Walker shrugged. “You just have to make sure you don’t wander into a nest of moccasins. I’m sure the set nurse has antivenom on hand.”

“Water moccasins. The shoe snakes.”

“They don’t look anything like shoes.”

Roan put the waterproof overalls on the counter. “Oh my God, I’m going to die.”

Walker straightened, and the attractive, teasing grin fell from his face. “Seriously, though, if you don’t want to do it, just say so. I won’t hold it against you.”

“If you say bless your heart, I’ll know exactly what you mean,” Roan grumbled. Walker laughed, and God. He was so damn handsome. Feeling his face heat, Roan looked down at the dry bib overalls. They were pretty thick. Maybe the fabric would stop the snake bites. “Fine, I’ll come.”

“I’m mighty glad.”

“You should be.”

Between the threat of biting critter, the thrill of Walker’s sweet drawl, and the headiness of his eager attention, Roan’s head was a swirl. Leaving his tea behind untasted, he stomped away for some privacy to get changed, ignoring John who said, “That’s got to be the most reluctant acceptance of a date I’ve ever seen. Andy’s going to love it.”

A psychic medium and a skeptical cop solve supernatural murders in Myrtle Beach

Blurb

Medium and clairvoyant Simon Kincaide owns a Myrtle Beach boardwalk shop where he runs ghost tours, holds séances, and offers private psychic readings, making a fresh start after his abilities cost him his lover and his job as a folklore professor. Jaded cop Vic D’Amato saw something supernatural he couldn’t explain during a shootout several years ago in Pittsburgh and relocated to Myrtle Beach to leave the past behind, still skeptical about the paranormal. But when the search for a serial killer hits a dead end, Vic battles his skepticism to ask Simon for help. As the body count rises, Simon’s involvement makes him a target, and a suspect. But Simon can’t say no, even if it costs him his life and heart.

My Two Pennies Worth

If you read this blog on a regular basis you'll know I've read several of Morgan Brice's books, including this one. The thing about audio is sometimes it can dull your enjoyment of a favourite book and sometimes it can bump a good book up a notch. And the latter is what happened here.

This is a good paranormal suspense/police procedural with a gay romance thrown in and I enjoyed that side of things as much this time as when I read it originally.

The plot/story line is well crafted, with an interesting paranormal world that could well be our own and based on a lot of existing folklore and superstitions. The similarities and differences between the investigation carried out by the psychic and the police were interesting.

Simon, the psychic, was an engaging character from the very beginning. I liked him and the life he’d made for himself in Myrtle Beach. His gifts were interesting and well explored, and fitted well into the story. Towards the end he veered into TSTL territory, and I wasn’t convinced by his reason for this, but as a character trait it’s one I’ve forgiven on more than one occasion (once, repeatedly by the same character over an entire series) so this didn’t bother me too much.

When I read the book I found Vic, the cop, harder to like but I didn't get that reaction this time around and I think that was due to the sympathetic narration. I still struggled to understand his issue with 'woo woo' considering his past experiences but I liked him a lot more.

Where the narrator really improved matters was in the romance. I really believed in Vic and Simon and their budding relationship.

Good book, excellent narrator.

Review Tour - Living On A Dare by Grace Kilian Delaney

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Universal Link - Exclusive to Amazon and Available to Borrow with Kindle Unlimited

Length: 170 pages

Cover Design: AngstyG

Blurb

Stuntman Draven O’Connor never turns down a dare—even if it means getting down on one knee to propose to his former college roommate and friend. The same man he’s been crushing on since the first day they met. The same man that has grown distant over the past year. And the same man who just agreed to be his fiancé.

Julien Bouchard is tired of living a lie. He spent the past year exploring his sexuality in secret, enduring countless dates with women to appease his mother, and dodging his best friend, Draven, who knows everything there is to know about him, except the one thing that could change their friendship. Ready to face his friend, he meets him at a bar and is greeted by an unexpected marriage proposal. The dare isn’t surprising; it’s the scorching hot kiss that sends Julien’s head and heart in a tailspin—and gives him an idea for the perfect plan.

But perfect plans are never go according to plan, and news of their fake engagement spreads to their families as fast as a wildfire, forcing them to confront their true feelings about each other and hope they don’t get burned.

My Two Pennies' Worth

Fake boyfriend and friends to lovers provide a double whammy of tropes that contribute to this sweet story. Occasionally I got infuriated with the lack of communication but on the whole I liked both of the MCs. That Draven is a stuntman adds an extra layer of interest and danger. I thought there would be more angst based on Jule's toxic and homophobic family, but the tale is relatively angst free.
I assume Jules's brother, Quinn is the next story but will he be with Xander or Tate.

Autism Awareness Blog Hop 2019

Autism is much more common than many people think. There are around 700,000 people on the autism spectrum in the UK – that's more than 1 in 1001. If you include their families, autism is a part of daily life for 2.8 million people.

When RJ asked us to write a piece on Childhood Toys my first thought was Lego. Lego has played a massive part in my life, both as a child and a parent. When I had Lego it was more or less just coloured blocks, windows, roof tiles and wheels, with the occasional person. When my son started playing with it Lego had developed to themed sets. But either way an obsession was started that has stuck with both of us, and also grips my brother and he has passed it down to his own son. What is it about Lego, then, that causes an infatuation that can last a lifetime? It's appeals to our inner builder and engineer, develops motor skills, teaches us to follow instructions but also encourages us to use our imagination and be creative. Once built Lego an be a great tool for storytelling and imaginative play.

Thinking of all these things I wondered if Lego would make a suitable toy for autistic children. A quick Google search showed me that Lego are already used as a form of therapy with some teachers of autistic children to develop social communication skills, such as sharing, turn-taking, following rules, using names and problem-solving . Even without Lego therapy, Lego are extraordinarily popular among autistic children as they behave in a predictable way and are a repeatable activity that can be worked on by the child on their own. Lego kits or blocks also behave in similar ways and are predicable for the child in the way they work. And due to their very nature Lego are suitable for teenagers and adults as well.

If you're interested on reading more about Lego therapy check out this post.

Book #3 - Better Place - Amazon US | Amazon UK

Blurb

When Wicksy falls for drag queen Charlie, they discover that both sexuality and gender can be fluid.

Simon Wicks—Wicksy to his rugby teammates—has only ever been interested in women. But when he sets eyes on Lady Gogo, a drag queen who performs at Rainbow Place, he can’t stop thinking about her. He knows there’s a guy behind the fishnets and make-up, but he’s ready to explore his fantasies, and Lady Gogo is game for making them come true.

Charlie adores performing in drag. It allows him to indulge in his love of cross-dressing while earning some extra cash. Fooling around with a mostly straight guy in secret seems like a fun diversion, and gives him the chance to explore his feminine side. He feels safe wearing the mask of his confident alter ego, because the real Charlie is hidden from view.

When Wicksy sees more of the guy behind the make-up and glitter, his attraction to Charlie persists, and he realises he’s bisexual. In turn, Charlie begins to understand and accept his gender fluidity. As their mutual journey of self-discovery brings them closer, the secrecy becomes increasingly hard to deal with. If they’re going to have a future together, they both need to find the courage to show people who they really are.

Although this book is part of a linked series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

Book Blitz & review - The Accidental Baker by Clare London

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Universal Link - Exclusive to Amazon and Available to Borrow with Kindle Unlimited

Length: 16,000 words approx.

Blurb

Donnie Watson's baking disasters are legendary, but this Easter, his mismatched chocolate eggs bring accidental but astonishing results to four downhearted gay men. The chocolate sweets spill onto the pavement of a small parade of local shops—and go on a matchmaking tour like no other! From a bankrupt and betrayed baker, to a homeless but hopeful man, to a conceited bar owner in need of a reality check, and finally to the hapless but caring Donnie himself.

After all, Love means you can have chocolate too!

My Two Pennies' Worth

Such a sweet collection of short stories all connected by the same parade of shops and some homemade wayward Easter chocolates. These were four couples all meeting and/or connecting for the first time on the same day. The stories are all short; Donnie, who started it all by making the eggs, seems to get the short straw in the story department but he ends the collection as well as starting it which rounds the whole thing off nice. Each situation and pairing is distinctive and different.

Well written, with Clare London’s trademark wit, and a nice British flair.

I’d love to read more about these characters.

An enjoyable and engaging read. If you're looking for something relatively shirt, angst-free, and sweet to read this weekend, I'd recommend this.

As the Light Festival draws near, the Něssyrians craft paper lanterns, awaiting the most important holiday of the year.
The Lyliňg Fighting House, too, prepares for celebration—by laying fresh sand onto the arena and setting up a match against their top pit fighter, the unrivalled Yüuzuki ÅŒren.
His last match. One he can’t win.
With the odds more than stacked against him, the gorgeous Barbarian is as good as dead. Unless his lover, healer Ĥaiatto Ẽkana, proves himself every bit as determined as he is clever and finds a way to protect the man he'd stop at nothing to save.

My Two Pennies' Worth

So much story in a few chapters.
This is another excellent addition to this universe.
The writing is effortless, the storytelling superb, the world-building barely noticeable and yet so vivid.
I can't wait for the next instalment.

Excerpt
They brought him to me bloodied and beaten to a pulp three days before the Night of Lights.
Being battered black and blue after a fight came with the territory for an ih’mohrô, even one as good as Yüuzuki ÅŒren. Not once in the past, however, had he ended up unresponsive in my treatment room. My stomach plummeted at the sight of two guards hauling him between them like a sack of coal. Was the dread that had haunted my dreams about to transpire?
Careful not to unmask my fear, I schooled my features. “Here.” I ushered the men to the exam table, erected in the middle of my study for easy access.
I did my best not to wince when Yüu’s limp body landed on top of the linen-dressed surface with a dull thump.
I got to him in two leaps and busied myself with arranging him in a recovery position. Placing two fingers on the inside of his wrist, I took his pulse. It felt thready and rapid, but it was there. I observed his chest rising and falling in shallow but regular breaths. Having seen no evidence of a collapsed lung or any blockage in his airways, I sighed with relief.
The blood caking his body—part dried, part fresh—prevented me from fully determining the damage.
I ordered the men to step back and allow me room to work. The next moment, I snatched my emergency kit from the side cabinet and prepared a basin of fresh water, dampening a soft muslin washcloth in it. Having settled Yüu onto his back with speed and care, I proceeded to clean the skin of the wounded man.
Not just any man, but the one I loved.
The scanty outfit of a pit-fighter, consisting of a simple loincloth, allowed me to get on with my task right away, taking stock of his injuries as the sweeping movements of my hands uncovered more and more scrapes, cuts and contusions.
Yüu was as tough as they came. The toughest. I would know, having treated him and other prized combatants of the Lyliňg Fighting House for over three years. If his body shut down, going into shock from blood loss and pain, both must’ve been significant.
