Review Tour - The Layover by Roe Horvat

Length: 115 pages

Blurb

Eight years ago, Ondro Smrek fled Slovakia and the bigotry that drove his first lover to take his own life, but the demons proved impossible to outrun. Desperate for somewhere to belong, Ondro is returning to start over.

During a layover in Basel, Switzerland, he meets Jamie, an American living in Scotland who is as brilliant as he is beautiful. Jaded Ondro never would have guessed he could fall in love during a brief layover—until now.

When he is put in a position to offer Jamie comfort without hope of recompense, Ondro doesn’t hesitate and soon catches a glimpse of the home he longs for. But with their separation looming, confessing his feelings can only lead to pain and humiliation. Life has taught Ondro not to hope, but then, he never believed in love at first sight either…

My Two Pennies' Worth

I've read quite a few of this author's work and been impressed by every one and yet for some reason I've never read this, one of his earlier books. I don't know why I waited so long. The writing is beautiful and expressive just as I have come to except. Roe writes with an amazing flow to his words that gives them depth but somehow keeps from tumbling into flowery prose.

Somehow this short novella packs in plenty. Two characters that you can't fail to get behind, an emotional connection both between and to the characters. There's enough angst to tug on your heartstrings but never enough to break it in two.

Highly recommended.

Review Tour - Dances Long Forgotten by Ruby Moone

Buy Links: Amazon US | Amazon UK | Universal Link - Exclusive to Amazon and Available to Borrow with Kindle Unlimited

Length: 35,000 words approx.

Cover Design: Meredith Russell

Blurb

On Christmas Eve, Dylan, the man of James Pell-Charnley’s dreams, is on the point of walking out. Then they hear the faint strains of a waltz in the library of the empty abbey. The music is said to be heard only by those truly in love and it gives James the courage to tell Dylan the story.

In December 1841, Lord Hugo Pell-Charnley is in a terrible mess. The youngest son of the late Marquis, youngest brother of the incumbent, never felt to fit. When his life comes crashing down, and his life and his family are threatened, he is forced to face his elder brother and confess his deepest secret. When he arrives at Winsford Abbey he finds he must also confront the shame from his past in the form of Lyndon Cross. The boy he’d loved but betrayed in school.

As they clear the ghosts from the past, they dance in each other’s arms in the library to the soft strains of the waltz, but long buried secrets threaten to destroy their happiness.

Two hundred years later, can those dances long forgotten give James and Dylan the courage to hold on to love?

My Two Pennies' Worth

An absolutely delightful Christmas story.
Told solely from the POV of Hugo meant I felt each of the highs and lows as he was rocked by revelations and buoyed by realisations.
Ruby Moone has a deft touch with her historical writing that I really appreciate. The details are there but I never feel swamped by the weight of her research.
And the modern day bookends of the historical story set it off brilliantly.

I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.

Excerpt

A knock on the door froze him. Who in God’s name would be wanting entry to the damned library at this hour?

Before he could respond, it opened, and Lyndon Cross stepped over the threshold and closed the door behind him.

Hugo had no idea what to say. He just stared. Mouth quite probably hanging open.

“I hope you don’t mind me following you,” Cross said. His voice should have been like a chorus of angels given the way he looked, but it was deep, quiet, and had a warm, raspy quality to it that brushed against Hugo’s skin. It always had. Even as a boy it had power, but as a man it wrapped its way all around him.

“Not at all.”

Cross walked towards him, and Hugo had to fight to remain in place and not bolt for the door.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect.”

Hugo frowned. “Beg pardon?”

“I wasn’t sure if you’d want to speak to me.”

“Ah, why wouldn’t I?” Hugo was genuinely bewildered for a moment, but then Cross raised an eyebrow; tilted his head.

No…no…no… He isn’t going to mention it…surely to God? It was something that Hugo had expunged from memory.

“Do you remember my last day?”

Hugo nodded; eyes wide. He is. Dear, sweet God, he is going to mention it.

Hugo felt as though someone was squeezing him all over, making it hard to think or breathe, as he recalled that last day vividly to memory.

He’d heard that Lyndon was leaving the school, from the gossip that periodically rippled through the school. It was as though someone had ripped his heart from his chest. He’d followed him through the building, completely unable to speak to him, tell him how desperate he felt. At the end, he’d hidden in the grand hall and watched Lyndon walk across it to meet his parents waiting in the carriage on the drive. No-one else was about. It was his last chance to say something, but the words stuck in his throat.

Lyndon, by some strange twist, paused by the door, looked around, and spotted him lurking by the grandfather clock. He’d hesitated, whilst Hugo’s heart hung suspended in his chest, and then he’d run to him. Run back into the hall. He’d thrown his arms around Hugo, held him tight for a moment, then kissed him on the cheek. He’d been about to run back when Hugo grabbed him. Actually grabbed him and kissed him full on the mouth.

In his dreams, Hugo liked to think Lyndon had returned the kiss, in a closed mouthed, inexpert way, with his arms tight about him. In reality, he wasn’t too sure. Lyndon had stared for a moment, then run back to his parents.

That had been ten years ago, and now, the first boy he’d kissed stood before him. Hugo wasn’t sure if he’d come to exact retribution and expose him. Well, if he was here to do that, he’d need to get in line.

My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!

Review Tour - Christmas Lights (An Owatonna U Novella) by RJ Scott & V.L. Locey

Length: 26,000 words approx.

Cover Design: Meredith Russell

Owatonna U Series

Book #1 - Ryker - Amazon US | Amazon UK | Universal Link

Book #2 - Scott - Amazon US | Amazon UK | Universal Link

Blurb

Under the Christmas lights strung outside a snowy Minnesota cabin, Ryker and Jacob face a future where nothing will be the same again.

Fortunate timing means that Ryker and Jacob can spend a few days together over Christmas in a cabin on the family farm. What’s better is that Scott and Ben are coming as well, with Hayne and Ethan in tow. Ryker can’t imagine a better way to spend time with the man he loves, and the friends he misses, and somehow he knows that this Christmas will be the best one ever. Hockey on a frozen pond, kisses under Christmas lights, and sharing time with Jacob are the best gifts he could ever receive.

Long distance relationships are brutal, Jacob can attest to that fact. So, when Ryker gets a few days off over the Raptors’ Christmas break, the hard-working Minnesota farmer is beyond thrilled. When they find out that their buddies from Owatonna U. are making the trip as well, the holidays are looking to be just about perfect. Jacob has a question for Ryker burning in his heart, and he isn’t asking for much—just a few fun-filled days with old friends and a yes from the man of his dreams.

My Two Pennies Worth

A cute Christmas story which serves both as an epilogue to Jacob and Ryker's story and also as a great catch up with all the couples.

Jacob and Ryker were the couple that never truly got their HEA since both struggled with their long distance relationship and this Christmas tale strives to address that. Despite the season this story isn't all about the warm and fuzzies, farm work is hard and can be soul destroying and that is reflected in several heartbreaking scenes.

Jesse volunteers to search for the missing component in the realm of the fae, but his boyfriend, Sean, isn’t letting him go alone. The town has an enemy among the fae, so they’ll need to keep a low profile. Along their way, they find unexpected allies, surprising enemies, and a whole host of problems.

The journey is a test of their endurance, but also of their relationship and their faith in each other. Can they find what they need and get back home in one piece in time for the summer solstice?

Sam wrote her first fantasy epic with her best friend when she was ten. Like almost any epic fiction written by a ten year old, it was awful. She likes to think she’s improved since then, if only because she has better handwriting now.

New Release - Last Place in the Chalet by Sue Brown

Last Place in the Chalet by Sue Brown

Buylinks

Noel Garrett leaves for his Christmas vacation with an engagement ring in his pocket.  But he boards the plane alone and with a broken heart when his boyfriend dumps him in the airport.
His seatmate, Angel Marinelli, takes care of him with gentle determination… whether Noel wants it or not, and Noel doesn't expect to see Angel again. But when an overbooking leaves Angel without a room and Noel is asked to host him, one night turns into the whole vacation and they settle into the chalet and mix with an eclectic group of guests, including the Wise Guys and a pregnant woman. As they ski and spend every moment together, Noel finds himself falling for Angel, and though his feelings are returned, Noel worries it’s just a rebound romance. It’ll mean taking a leap of faith, but Noel has to make a decision before he hurts Angel, and Christmas is fast approaching.

Excerpt
“Are you ill?”
Noel wished the guy would just leave him alone. He didn’t have the patience for twenty questions. “Not ill. Not drunk.”
“Then—?”
“Dumped, okay? My boyfriend dumped me at the airport.” His throat closed around the painful words and he looked away to avoid the pity in the wide green eyes.
The man squeezed Noel’s forearm. “I’m so sorry.”
“Me too.”
“Here.”
He handed Noel the takeout cup of coffee. “I don’t want—”
“Drink it.” The man almost growled at him.
Noel sipped at it. It was black and bitter and disgusting. Noel liked his coffee half full of creamer and sugar. But the shock of the bitter taste grounded him in a way he hadn’t expected.
The man watched him shrewdly. “Feeling better?”
“Yes.” Noel sighed. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. My name’s Angelo Marinelli. Everyone calls me Angel.”
It was kind of appropriate. With his blond curls and sweet face, he looked angelic.
“Noel Garrett.”
They shook hands awkwardly around the cup of coffee.
“Do you want another one or the water?” Angel proffered the bottle.
Noel shook his head. “I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not, but you will be.”
“How can you know that?” Noel asked bitterly.
“Because you’re hurting now, but it won’t last.”
Angel’s gentle smile eased the hurt in Noel just a fraction.
“You think so?”
“I know so,” Angel said, his tone so confident it drew an involuntary smile from Noel.
“You seem too young to know about broken hearts.”
Angel’s smile turned wry. “It’s the blond curls and the altar-boy appearance, isn’t it?”
Noel nodded because Angel did look like an altar boy, now that he mentioned it. “What are you? Nineteen, twenty?”
“I’m twenty-five.”
“I bet you get carded all the time.”
“Every damn time,” Angel agreed. “What about you?”
Noel frowned, confused at the question. “What about me?”
“How old are you?” Angel clarified.
“Twenty-seven. It was my birthday yesterday.”
“Ah, that’s why you’re called Noel. It makes sense now.”
“Kind of old-fashioned, but my folks are like that.” Noel had hated his name as a kid, but now he didn’t mind. It was who he was. Staid and boring.
Unaware of Noel’s bitter thoughts, Angel smiled at him. “Happy birthday for yesterday.”
Noel gave him a wry smile. “At least Adam waited to dump me until after my birthday.”

Release Blitz - Four Christmasses by Nell Iris

Length: 23,740 words

Publisher: JMS Books

Blurb

Will a decade-old family feud and long held secrets stand in the way of love?

Auden Whipple is searching for a bit of peace and quiet from his loud family when he stumbles across the neighbor, Porter Eldin. Porter is scorching hot on a freezing Christmas Day, and nothing like Auden expected. A moment shared by the creek begins a relationship that surprises them both.

As the Christmases pass, Auden and Porter’s relationship deepens. But the obstacle of the unresolved conflict between the Whipples and the Eldins makes Auden worried. Worried to tell his family of his new-found love, worried that the conflict will come between them.

Can two men truly in love help mend fences that have been broken for too long? Can the holiday spirit help Auden and Porter find their happily ever after?

Nell Iris is a romantic at heart who believes everyone deserves a happy ending. She’s a bona fide bookworm (learned to read long before she started school), wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without something to read (not even the ladies’ room), loves music (and singing along but, let’s face it, she’s no Celine Dion), and is a real Star Trek nerd (“Make it so”). She loves words, poetry, wine, and Sudoku, and absolutely adores elephants!

Nell believes passionately in equality for all regardless of race, gender, or sexuality, and wants to make the world a better, less hateful, place.

Nell is a forty-something bisexual Swedish woman, married to the love of her life, and a proud mama of a grown daughter. She left the Scandinavian cold and darkness for warmer and sunnier Malaysia a few years ago, and now spends her days writing, surfing the Internet, enjoying the heat, and eating good food. One day she decided to chase her lifelong dream of being a writer, sat down in front of her laptop, and wrote a story about two men falling in love.

Nell Iris writes gay romance, prefers sweet over angst, and wants to write diverse and different characters.
