Blurb

Josiah Foxglove is given a second chance when he takes over his family’s spread in the shadow of the Snowy Range. A veteran of the Gulf War, he came back broken in body and spirit.

Marcus Colton buried his long-time lover and best friend three years ago. Lonely and still grieving, Marcus finds solace in protecting Petilune, a pretty girl with learning difficulties, who will surely become a victim of abuse and neglect without his help. But that doesn’t help him get through the long, dark nights.

When violence wracks the small community of Centurion, WY, it’s easy to place blame on Petilune's mysterious new boyfriend, Ojibwe teen Kit Golden Eagle. It looks open and shut, but for Josiah and Marcus the facts simply don’t add up.

Something’s rotten in Centurion, something that smacks of a hate crime…

My Two Pennies Worth

It's great to have a story with two mature MCs, and both damaged too. Josiah is a veteran, battle-scarred and introverted. Marcus is grieving the loss of his best friend (and secret lover). Neither are silver foxes or body beautiful. I loved the way they move from friendship to more slowly as befits the cautious pair; sometimes sweet, sometimes awkward.

Violence hits their little community and suspicion falls on the stranger in town. I don't want to say to much because this is a mystery story and the plot is complex and as interesting as the romance is slow burn.

This had some great strong female secondary characters, especially Josiah's sister.

The relationship is developed perfectly, and the mystery is solved sufficiently to appease but still doesn't answer all the questions, just like in real life you never know all the answers.

Nick J. Russo is an excellent narrator. I've yet to listen to anything that he's not done perfectly.

Recommended.
