The most difficult of life’s choices might be the one we make when we open our hearts to another.

Landon Reece is the ultimate Manhattan athlete. The elite goalie for the New York Metros is rich, handsome, generous, and purposely single. His life has been a whirlwind of fancy cars, beautiful people, museum galas, and championship rings. Landon now has one year left on his multi-million dollar contract, and the talk around town isn’t good. Despite carrying his team to the pinnacle of success, the aging goalie is hearing rumors that his contract might not be renewed next season. Hoping to curtail the rumors and show the Metros he still has what it takes, Landon and his agent set up a press tour to hopefully remind the fans—and Metros’ management—just how important Landon is to New York City.

During one of a hundred appearances on the tour, Landon finds himself a guest on the newest and hottest late night talk show in the Big Apple. There he meets Montrell Pittman, leader of the show’s band, A Brush of Blue, and his senses come alive. He resolves to do his best to woo the upbeat, sexy musician who ignites his blood like no other person ever has. As the two men grow closer, Landon’s ice time shows how happy his new romance is making him. Then a tragedy rocks his world, and Landon finds himself wallowing in despair and in danger of losing the man who might be the only one who can clear his blues away.

Ex-Special Forces Communications Sergeant Jacopo “Jack” Constantino heads the cybersecurity department at Four Kings Security, working with his tech-savvy team to provide clients with state-of-the-art security systems. But life for Jack is pretty uneventful—despite the exploits with his brothers-in-arms—and he finds himself longing for a little more excitement.

Be careful what you wish for.

Two years ago, Fitz Harlow captured Jack’s heart and walked away with it. Now he’s back.

Fitz spent the last two years picking up the pieces of his life after a disastrous relationship. After much therapy, and ice cream, Fitz leaves the fashion world behind and returns home to St. Augustine to open his own high-end salon, Hair Comes Trouble. Now Fitz finally has the quiet, peaceful life he’s wanted for so long. There’s only one thing missing, or rather, one man missing, but Fitz has his doubts. With Jack, he’s not just gaining a boyfriend—he’s gaining a boyfriend, his family of mischief-magnet ex-Green Berets, and one highly opinionated Belgian Malinois.

Fitz and Jack discover their connection has only grown stronger over time, thanks in part to meddling friends, but just as they start to pick up where they left off, someone takes exception to their reunion. Danger hides in the shadows, a stalker determined to keep Fitz out of Jack’s life, no matter the cost. With the odds stacked against them, can Jack and Fitz win a battle against an unknown enemy, or will Jack lose Fitz forever?

Excerpt:

Oh God. Jack covered his face with his hands. Just what he didn’t need.
“What is it?” Ace asked, no doubt peeking over Joker’s shoulder, because although Joker was nosy, no one beat him in the meddling department like Ace. Anston Sharpe was worse than the granny living next door who knew more about you than your family did.
“A text from Fitz.”
Jack ignored the smile in Joker’s voice. He moved his hands and sighed. The two were grinning like idiots.
“It’s nothing. Just a reminder about my upcoming hair appointment.” Why the hell had he agreed to get his hair cut at Hair Comes Trouble? Right, because Fitz’s best friend, Laz, had given Jack the puppy eyes and Jack was too much of a sucker to say no. Sometimes friends sucked.
“There’s a kissy-face emoji after it, though,” Ace pointed out.
“I’m sure he adds that to all his texts.”
“No, he doesn’t,” Ace said, removing his phone from his pocket. He tapped away at it before showing Jack his text from Fitz. “My emoji is looking at me with suspicion. Like, what is that? Why do I get the suspicion emoji? Is he expecting me to make off with his hair dryer? Give him a bad review on Yelp? Why do you get a kissy face and I get apprehension?”
“Because you’re shady as fuck,” Joker said with a snort.
“Screw you. What emoji did you get?”
“I got a happy face and a little service dog emoji for Chip.”
“What the hell? I mean, Chip I get. Everyone loves him, but why do you get a happy face? No one likes you.”
Joker grinned smugly. “My emoji and my dog’s emoji say otherwise.”
“Whatever.” Ace rolled his eyes before turning that intense gold-green gaze on Jack. “So… you gonna call him?”
Jack shook his head. “Nope. It was a confirmation appointment. From his salon, I might add. Not a personal text.”
“But it had a kissy-face emoji,” Ace said, waggling his eyebrows.
“It was probably a mistake. Everyone, get out of my van.”

Blurb

When love is on the line, the worst decisions can end up having the best endings.
Tate Collins, an all-American hockey phenomenon, was the highly marketable face of Dallas hockey. Loaded down with endorsements and playing his best game, he was a superstar and a household name. No one ever expected him to fail, but overnight, after the worst decision of his life, everything spirals out of his control. Abruptly, his reputation is in tatters, and he’s traded to the Arizona Raptors in a shocking move. Brushing off the wild and unfounded accusations that he faces on social media, and stuck on the second line, he keeps his head down and works hard to earn his spot. Tate knows he can make a difference if only his teammates would let him. Something has to change for him to earn their respect, but falling for the captain might not be his best move.

Vladislav Novikov has been called many things over his long and illustrious career, but the new nickname of Iceberg seems to fit best. Perhaps it’s due to his icy blue eyes, or the way he rams into opposing players as he defends his goalie. Or maybe it’s because of his cool demeanor when not playing the game he loves. Whatever the reason, it’s why he’s the perfect team captain for this wild bunch of puck-pushers. His perfectly controlled life is smooth as ice until Tate Collins rides into Tucson with his apple pie ways and those damn dimples. The young superstar immediately catches his eye. Despite knowing better than to start something with a teammate, the big, bad Iceberg is about to have that chilly veneer around his heart melted away by Tate one sweet kiss at a time.

My Two Pennies' Worth

Another solid addition to the series. And we got a little bit of my favourite character ever in this shared world, Stan. His conversation with Vlad about love and family was a joyful experience.

The relationship between Tate and Vlad had a touch of instalove about it but they worked well together and I'm glad that bY the end Tate is loosening up the big guy and expanding his pop culture horizons. Vlad = Drax is a perfect comparison.

There was plenty of hockey time and time with the team. And this story is very much of founded family and being out with those you trust to keep you safe.

Roll on Colorado's book. Time to tame the beast!

Missing Pieces Series, Book Three

As Justin’s recovery moves forward, Dallas dares to hope their lives are settling into their new normal. His money worries have eased, business is picking up, and best of all, Justin now laughs more than he frowns.

Justin’s memory still eludes him, but with each snippet or flashback, small pieces of his old life start to slot into place. He remembers more of Dallas and how perfectly happy their lives used to be, and with each passing day, Justin realises he can have that again.

But when someone from Justin’s past turns up, he discovers that not all the missing pieces are good, and sadly, he and Dallas also learn just what it means to live with a traumatic brain injury.

If Dallas and Justin have to fight for their Happily Ever After, then Dallas will stop at nothing—nothing—to give Justin the life he always wanted.

“. . . as I tried to put the puzzle of myself back together, it was the pieces of us that made me whole.”

Excerpt

I was up before Dallas, which was unusual, drinking my decaf coffee and staring out the kitchen window. He was normally awake before me, but a headache somewhere around five in the morning had me up searching for my pills. Headaches were nothing new; sometimes I’d catch myself thinking life was returning to normal, but then the constant pain inside my head reminded me otherwise.

I was so used to headaches now I barely registered them. That continuous ache was sometimes dull, sometimes sharp, but always there. Except for this morning when it woke me up.

I was never too cheerful in the morning, but today I was feeling particularly sorry for myself. Not even watching Dallas sleep improved my mood. If anything, it made me feel even shittier. He was so good to me. He was, without doubt, too good for me as well.

But for some stupid reason, he loved me. He loved me before the accident, and that didn’t change anything for him. If anything, he reckoned it made him realise he loved me more now. It had been a lesson in taking things for granted, he’d said. I could see it in his eyes just how much he loved me. Those hazel-grey eyes couldn’t hide a thing, and I found myself recognising his moods in them.

Losing myself in them.

Dallas had said that we fell in love hard and fast the first time, and it was much the same for me the second time. He was caring, attentive, thoughtful, funny . . . everything I ever wanted in a boyfriend. He was also tall, strong, and handsome. How on earth I’d ever scored him once was a mystery to me. The fact he stuck around for a second time was just crazy.

But stuck around he had.

I hated to think where I’d be without him. If I’d decided not to go home with him when we’d left the hospital—not that I had anywhere else to go—well, they would have found me somewhere, apparently. But my heart said to go with him, and now I knew why.

Because my heart knew him.

My heart loved him.

And on days when I felt like shit—not just physically, but emotionally as well—I just felt . . . useless.

Like a kid who needed babysitting. Who couldn’t walk up or down stairs without supervision, who couldn’t even have a shower in the house by himself. And being at work was like my first day as a sixteen-year-old apprentice. I knew it was all for my safety or whatever, but that just pissed me off. I wasn’t a kid. I wasn’t incompetent. I knew how to do this stuff. And some days my brain was slow as hell; but some days my mind was fine and it was my body that betrayed me.

I hated being like this.

I hated being so dependent on other people. I hated that Dallas had to look after me like I was a toddler and how Sparra had to babysit me at work. I hated that I was aware of just how much I couldn’t do, of how much I used to do and now couldn’t.

We’d spent a few hours on Saturday at Jimmy and Nancy’s house, and I was so wiped out, it put my arse on the couch for all of Sunday. I napped on and off all damn day. I tried to do a few things around the flat with Dallas but was no good at anything.

He’d simply kissed me with a smile and told me to rest while he pottered about getting everything done while I parked up in front of the damn TV like a simpleton.

I couldn’t help but wonder how long he’d put up with it. How long would it take until he realised he could have any guy he wanted who didn’t have a brain injury? That didn’t have a fucked-up leg and who didn’t speak slow?

I heard the bedroom door open and didn’t even have to turn around. The sound of his feet got closer, then his huge warm hand slid up my back. “Hey,” he murmured. “I woke up alone.”

I sighed, now feeling even shittier than before. “Sorry. Headache woke me up and I didn’t want to disturb you.”

“Oh, you feel okay?” he asked, concerned. “Want me to get your pills?”

I turned then and offered a small smile. “I already took one, thanks.”

He put his fingers to my chin and inspected my eyes. “Baby, what’s wrong?”

I shrugged. “I feel . . .” I couldn’t find the right word. And it wasn’t aphasia. There were just too many words to choose from: awful, like shit, bad, low, worthless, horrible, useless . . . “Sad.”

Frowning, Dallas took my empty coffee cup from me, put it on the sink, and pulled me into his arms. Into those huge, strong, and warm arms, holding me against his chest where I was safe and protected and completely enclosed. I could feel my worries dissipate, and the tension left my shoulders as I melted into him.

It was such a relief and so comforting, I could have cried.

I was stupid to think for one second that I could live without him. Well, not that I thought I could, but I had wondered why he didn’t leave me. I wouldn’t survive this without him.

He rubbed my back and took deep, calming breaths which I somehow unknowingly mimicked, making myself feel a little better.

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled.

“You don’t have to be sorry,” he replied. His voice rumbled smoothly in his chest against my ear. He never moved to let go of me or even pull away. “Did you feel sad for any reason? Or just because.”

“Just because.” I sighed since that felt like such an easy way out. I needed to talk about this. I owed him that. “I just feel . . . I hate being useless and I hate how my brain doesn’t work sometimes. I hate that you have to look after me, and I hate that I can’t do everything. I just woke up feeling pretty low today.”

He rubbed my back some more and kissed the side of my head. “I get that,” he said, still hugging me. “And you’re allowed to feel those things. I can tell you that you’re not useless, but I don’t want to make what you feel isn’t valid. Because if you feel it, then it’s real and we need to work on why you feel like that.” He pulled back then and cupped my face. “But baby, you’re the strongest guy I know. You’re determined and capable, and you’ve accomplished more in the last two months than you realise. I know you must be frustrated with everything, and I don’t blame you. But if you could just see how far you’ve come.”

I frowned, because I certainly didn’t feel like that.

“You’re allowed to feel useless and frustrated. And angry and sad,” Dallas added. “Thank you for telling me.”

I sighed again, sagging against the kitchen counter. “I would be so lost without you,” I mumbled.

He kissed my forehead and pressed me up against the cupboard and wrapped his strong arms around me again, squishing my face into his chest. “I’d be lost without you too,” he replied. But then one arm was gone from around me as he reached over to the kettle and flicked it on. “I’d be lost without coffee too.”

That made me smile, despite my mood. “You drink decaf now.” Another change he’d made for me.

“Just because it’s a bit different now doesn’t mean I still don’t need it,” he replied. I was certain that was aimed at me and not all about coffee. Because I was a bit different now and he still needed me . . .

Then he shuffled me over so he could keep one arm around me while he reached for the cups. “You can let go of me,” I suggested.

“Nope. I can do both. I can make two coffees and give good hugs.”

I managed a chuckle. How had he managed to make me laugh? “Yes, you can.”

He turned his head. “Uh. The milk’s in the fridge. Black coffee it is.”

I pushed him away with a laugh. “Get the milk.”

He quickly grabbed the milk and came straight back to his spot, which was pressed tight against me, pushing me against the cupboard with one arm around me. I gladly hugged him back, using the magic of his hugs to fix me for as long as I could.

“Coffees are done.” He sipped his. “Now, shall I try for toast?”

I chuckled again. “Depends where the bread is.”

He leaned and stretched. “Got it.”

But the margarine was in the fridge so he had to let go of me, which gave me a chance to sip my fresh coffee. He made breakfast and we shared triangles of Vegemite toast, and by the time we’d showered and dressed for work, I was feeling better.

I should have stayed in bed and hugged him there rather than getting up and wallowing by myself. Dallas knew how to fix me, and I was stupid to pretend otherwise.

He stopped me at the door. “You sure you’re feeling up to work today?” Dallas asked. “How’s your headache?”

“It’s okay. And yeah, I need to work today.”

He grinned. “Good. Because I need you to work today. You’re part of the team, Juss, and I need all hands on deck this morning.”

And there he went, telling me how not useless I was without even trying. I was part of the team. He needed me. No matter how small a job I did, he needed me to do it. I gave him a nod and even managed a smile. “Okay.”

With that beautiful smile, he led the way downstairs. He had me open the front roller door and unlock the front gates; then he wanted me to check the stock levels and see if anything else needed to be reordered.

I knew what he was doing.

He was making me not useless.

Sneaky bastard.

By the time Davo and Sparra arrived, I was actually feeling pretty good about myself. They were both keen to use the new coffee machine, so that gave us some time to talk about our weekends until we were interrupted by our first clients of the day.

Sparra and I went to work on an old Yamaha while Davo serviced an ATV, and Dallas did some time in his office until another client dropped off a KTM. “Hey, Juss, I need you with me for this,” he said.

It was gonna be a pretty big job. The rider had stacked it on the trails, and there was damage to the front forks, suspension, steering shaft, handlebars, and the front tyre would need replacing. The rider, the teen nephew of the owner, was okay, thankfully. But they’d learned an expensive lesson about going downhill on a loose surface using front brakes. Such a rookie mistake on an awesome bike.

And for a few hours, Dallas had me doing everything I could physically do. He let me take lead and he helped me when I needed it. He was proving a point—that I wasn’t useless—and when we’d taken the front brake hose line clamp off and we were on opposite sides of the bike, I watched as he ratcheted a bolt undone, concentration and sweat on his brow. He caught me smiling at him. “What?” he asked quietly.

“I love you,” I replied. I hadn’t meant to say those words, not in the workshop, not so blasé. Davo and Sparra hadn’t heard a thing, not that I cared. But holy shit, this man . . .

His smile became a grin, the ratchet in his hand forgotten. He seemed a little lost for words.

“I know what you’re doing,” I added. “Giving me jobs I can do, making me feel not useless.”

He chuckled and put the tool down. “Just proving a point. Did it work?”

“Maybe.”

“It totally worked.”

I laughed but met his eyes. “You do these little things for me, to help me, without having to say a thing. Everything you do for me, you do because you love me, and it’s like the saying ‘actions speak louder than words.’ I never really knew what that meant. But now I do.”

His eyes softened. “Juss . . .”

“It’s an amazing feeling knowing you’re loved, so I wanted you to know too. I’ve said it before, but I wanted to say it again. I need you to know, Dall.”

He walked around my side of the bike, took my face in his hands, and kissed me. It was all soft lips and scruffy beard and far too brief. He pulled back and put his forehead to mine. “I know you love me, Juss. But you can tell me as many times as you want.”

“I love you,” I whispered this time, and he closed his eyes and smiled as though he could just bathe in those words.

Winsford Green Stories, Book 2

Arthur Fitch clawed his way out of the violence and poverty of the slums of London to become a valet to the aristocracy. His ambition to secure a higher position led him to a disastrous appointment with a cold, brutal man, and when things come to a head, Arthur is forced to flee into a snowstorm to find safety.

Joseph Wilkinson is the Winsford Green blacksmith. He has a good life, good friends, owns a thriving business, but at the end of the day when he goes home, loneliness consumes him. When he stumbles upon a small man determinedly trudging through the snowstorm, he invites him into his home to shelter.

Arthur Fitch is older, smart-mouthed, and as prickly as hell. But, as Joe peels back the layers, he discovers a warm, funny, vulnerable man whose tastes in the bedchamber leave Joe gasping and desperate for more. Trouble is, having found the real Arthur Fitch, how can he convince him that life in a small town can be infinitely better than working for an Earl? That love really is possible for people like them? Particularly when Arthur’s past catches up with him in horrifying fashion.

Excerpt:

Arthur Fitch drifted into awareness slowly. He was warm. Deliciously warm. He rubbed his face against the pillow, sighed, and the warm body behind him shifted with him. He smiled and hummed happily as he eased his way up through the layers of sleep. When he moved, he groaned. Every part of him seemed to ache. Including his head. He stretched out his legs and the body behind him moved again.
Arthur froze. Body? Body behind him? Body in bed with him...?
His eyes shot open, blinking rapidly. Where in God’s name was he? It was a completely unfamiliar room, unfamiliar bed, and … and … he swallowed and turned his head to the side. A completely unfamiliar man. Who, at that moment, opened outrageously blue eyes and looked at him.
Arthur let out a wild yell and leaped from the bed.
“Who the hell are you?” he demanded as he stumbled to his feet. His legs were like water. He grabbed his swimming head with one hand and clutched at the bed post with another as he almost overbalanced.
His blue-eyed bed companion sat up. Dear… sweet …. God. He was magnificent. Huge, muscled shoulders. Pronounced collar bones peeping through the open neck of his night shirt. Shaggy hair the colour of autumn, and an untamed beard.
And he was young.
The man threw back the covers and stood on the opposite side of the bed. “Don’t you remember?” His voice was deep, husky rumble.
“Remember what?” His own voice had become a shriek. “What did you do to me?”
The man took a step back, wariness edging into his blue gaze. Christ, they were so blue.
“I didn’t do anything. I rescued you from the snow.”
Arthur looked around with his mouth open. He was used to being surrounded by the finest things money could buy. Working with the most respected and envied men of the upper ten thousand. Why the hell was he in some poky, rustic, shabby … Did that man have an erection? He stared at the man’s groin. There was definitely some stirring visible. He looked at him and raised a quelling brow. The man flushed, put a hand over himself, and glared at him. Dark brows pulling down.
“You walked from the Abbey in the snow. I brought you in and warmed you up. That’s all. Don’t flatter yourself.”
“My good man, I …” Arthur began, at his most haughty, then hesitated. Memories crowded in. Snow. Cold. More snow and so cold he thought he might die. He held onto his head as it all came flooding back. The giant had indeed saved him from the snow and probably saved his life.
He cleared his throat.

On Christmas Eve, Dylan, the man of James Pell-Charnley’s dreams, is on the point of walking out. Then they hear the faint strains of a waltz in the library of the empty abbey. The music is said to be heard only by those truly in love, and it gives James the courage to tell Dylan the story.

Prancing of a Papillon by Tara Lain

Prancing of a Papillon for Kindle 1500 x 2500

Fuzzy Love, Book 2

Opposites attracting, billionaires getting kidnapped, a Papillon who’s smarter than you are, and near-death at a dog show….

Jericho Jones is giving up on social life. What social life? Six-foot-five and packed with muscles he barely earned, Jericho looks like an alpha top, when he’s actually a gentle bottom who teaches first grade and lives with his hypochondriac mother. When Jericho’s friends, Finn and Em, suggest he accompany Finn to a dog show as the handler for their Papillon, Batshit, he decides, while he might be the world’s least likely Papillon prancer, he’d be grateful for a new experience and a few days away from Mama.

Jericho’s prepared to take dog handling seriously, but he’s not prepared for the pure lust he feels for wealthy dog owner, Brees Apollonia, a guy totally out of Jericho’s league. But Brees’s family issues make Jericho’s look tame – his father wants to marry him to the daughter of a prospective business partner. When Brees starts being followed by unknown guys, he thinks his father’s trying to scare him and uses it as an excuse to be “protected” by big, hunky Jericho. But pretend gets way out of control, and suddenly the only thing between Brees and possible death is a smart dog with big ears, three intrepid women, and gentle wimp, Jericho Jones.

Excerpt:

A soft voice from behind him said, “Mr. Jones? Uh, Jericho?”
Jericho started to shiver before he even turned around. That voice was unmistakable. Looking only confirmed that his goosebumps barely covered the situation. Holy crap. In a couple days, the impact of that face and slender body had faded in Jericho’s busy brain to something approaching attractive humanity. Clearly, his brain was nuts. This guy belonged in the realm of the gods. Jericho smiled. “Hello, uh, Brees, right?” As in gentle breezes of lilac-scented heaven?
Brees stuck out that slim hand. “Right. Brees Apollonia.”

Jericho shook Brees’s hand. Or rather totally engulfed it so that no evidence of anything but the tips of his fingers showed. Swallowing up other folk’s hands wasn’t a new experience for Jericho, but in this case, he could think of other things he might like to swallow and that image wasn’t doing anything for the fit of his jeans. He might have decided to give up dating, but his body had other ideas.
Batshit whined. Jericho dragged his focus from inappropriate things and glanced down at Brees’s Papillon wiggling at his feet looking up at Batshit with enthusiastic interest. “Oh hi.” He put Bat on the floor, and the two dogs immediately touched noses and went in for a butt sniff.

Just then, Ichiko arrived behind Brees. “I have the keys. Fourteenth floor.”
From behind Jericho, Finn said, “I’ve got our rooms, Jericho.”
Jericho chuckled, just as he felt the leash he was holding pull tight against his legs and yank him toward Brees. Both dogs had managed to circle themselves, Jericho, and Brees, tying all of them into a bundle. Of all the parts of the burrito the dogs had created, Jericho stood the tallest and had the furthest to fall—and he did. As if there was some cosmic law saying Jericho would always make a total ass of himself around Brees Apollonia, his knees locked together inside the leashes and he started to tip.

Brees’s eyes widened and he put up his hands, and fortunately, Finn, who was smaller than Jericho, but still a pretty big guy, stepped in to shore up the bulwark. Together, they managed to prop up Jericho as Ichiko scampered around unfastening leashes and unwrapping Brees and Jericho, which Jericho had to admit was a tiny bit disappointing.
The problem was that as they were unfastened from their leashes, Batshit and Rodolfo took off around the lobby on a mad Papillon chase. They weren’t trying to enlist other dogs, but that was the effect, as several of the show dogs including a greyhound and an old English sheepdog, decided that somebody was having a lot of fun without them and proceeded to pull their handlers off their feet and take off as part of the race, scattering people in the lobby like bowling pins.
The lady who’d been criticizing Jericho outside, shrieked, “Will you get control of your dogs, for God’s sake!”

Rosavia Royals, Book 5

 RR-5-BarelyRegal-Davies-Medium

A bratty boy prince needs a firm but fair Daddy.

Prince Renford is a royal brat. Nineteen and last in line for the throne, Wren hates his made-up job: Commander of Roses. Good thing his long-time valet has a firm hand—if only Wren could tempt him to break all palace protocol and use it.

Thom Pierce is sixteen years older. Old enough to know he should ignore his prince's less-than-subtle flirtation. He's been burned by a higher-ranked boy before. His job and reputation are at stake if the palace catches a scandal unfolding under their noses.

Wren needs the part of Thom that he's kept locked away for years. If the young prince wants to be taken as seriously as his older brothers, he has to grow up fast. Thom's rules could help Wren become the man Thom knows he can be in time for the Royal Ball... or they could attract the very attention that forces them apart forever.

Exclusive from Ed & the Inspirations behind his Prince

How did you become a part of this project/world?
Funny story, actually! The covers came first—they started out as premade covers from our wonderful cover designer, AngstyG. The time zones happened to work out perfectly: I was on vacation and Helen (HJ Welch) was awake late, so we saw them straight away. Helen said, “We HAVE to do an MM royalty shared universe!” and that was it!
We’d already learned how to build a shared world while working together to run Men of Hidden Creek (I herd the cats and set up and Helen cheerleads). So we quickly set about recruiting our shared beta reader, editor, etc, and reaching out to authors as we started collaboratively building the world of Rosavia. This time, we’ve really focused on getting all the authors to beta-read for each other as we wrote so that we could nail as many crossovers as possible. And I’ve also been the main series organizer post-draft-completion, so I feel like I’ve been living in Rosavia since late February! It’s very weird but incredibly exciting to finally share it with the rest of the world.

Where did your story’s inspiration come from?
The title of Barely Regal came to me first; I knew I wanted to write the story of the youngest prince, and as a youngest child myself, I knew that he was going to be a feisty little rebel who hadn’t yet learned the importance of his own duties. Muddy little Renford (or Wren, for short) came to life in a flash. I also knew from the very start that I wanted to write his valet, Thom Pierce, experiencing a conflict of interest between his palace duties and the pull he feels to fulfil Wren’s needs.
Also, on the cover, Wren has mud streaked across his neck. I decided that he’s learning to garden, and that the roses in Rosavia represent each family. Each royal family member has their own rose created for them at birth, so when they marry, another rose is created by crossing the couple’s varieties. Of course, when you’re marrying someone you were never expected to end up with, this creates complications…

How did you create your Prince?
Once I realized that Wren had to be the youngest prince, his bratty, flirtatious nature was obvious. And every brat needs a Daddy! The obvious man for the job was Thom, the quiet valet who has guided and steered him for the last decade. These two just came to life at the same moment, because they’re so made-for-each-other.
I really wanted to tell the story of Wren growing into his duties. Through the course of the story, Wren starts off feeling like he’s not taken seriously. I think last-born kids can relate to that feeling of being babied for too long, and it’s not helped by his own bratty nature! But luckily someone’s there to see what’s immaturity and what’s Wren’s need for a strong guiding hand. Over the story, Wren comes to realize that he’s actually playing an important role in telling the royal family’s story, and his unique talents matter.

A playboy heir needs a man to marry, right now.

Royal Librarian Edvin Blom is good at not attracting attention. Shy and self-conscious of his stutter, he’s used to being overlooked and more than happy to stay in the background. At least, until the crown prince with a wild reputation shows up at the library’s new opening and decides to flirt with Edvin’s sister…

Edvin isn’t at all what Leo thought he wanted, but turns out to be everything he can’t stay away from. Edvin’s been burned by falling for someone out of his league before, though. And believing that Leo has really fallen for him? While Edvin’s drowning in his own doubts and insecurities, that might prove impossible… unless love gives them both a reason to come up for air.

Release Blitz - Flat Whites & Chocolate Fish, Southern Lights Book 3 by Jay Hogan

Title: Flat Whites & Chocolate Fish
Series: Southern Lights, Book 3
Author: Jay Hogan
Genre: MM Romance
Tropes: Grumpy meets grumpy, Forced proximity, Hurt/comfort, Secrets, Humour
Release date: July 16, 2020
Amazon Universal: https://readerlinks.com/l/1335919/07

Synopsis:
ADRIAN POWELL has a secret, a secret he’s guarded for 17 years. But it’s come at a cost—few friends, fewer lovers and a lifetime of loneliness. If he’s a bit grumpy and a tad pessimistic, who can blame him? So, exactly how he’s ended up with a bunch of nosy friends, a beautiful lakeside cottage and a successful business, is beyond him.

It’s a life he never imagined, and one that includes a problematic new neighbour, NIALL CARMICHAEL–an irritating, equally grumpy, sexy as hell silver fox, who kisses like a dream, shakes every one of Adrian’s walls, and who might just prove Adrian’s undoing.

But secrets have a way of catching up with you. And when Adrian’s past comes knocking, it might just threaten everything he’s built.

Excerpt:
Adrian paused, horrified at the wide smile he was sporting. Holy moly. It was too late. The universe had cemented him into the friendship collective whether he liked it or not. “You know what?” he grumbled in surrender. “You’re right. It is my turn to be crapped on by all of you. But I won’t be going down without a fight, so be warned.”
“There’s the spirit.” Ethan laughed. “So, back to this bloody coffee shipment, then.” He blew out a sigh. “I think this one’s definitely for the pessimist’s list. You do the whole pissed-off-business-owner role way better than me. I cave at the first hint of officialdom, whereas you laugh in the face of a spreadsheet. My Jedi mind tricks don’t work on these guys. That was the deal, remember? I bring the charm, you bring the swinging dick.”
Adrian nearly choked on his tongue. “I’m not sure those were the exact words.”
“Whatever. Please? Pretty, pretty please?”
Adrian could almost see the kid’s eyelashes batting. “All right. Good grief. Stop embarrassing yourself. I’ll call and sort it.” God knew how.
“You’re the best. See you tomorrow.” Ethan hung up so fast Adrian almost felt the draught in his ear, which left him with the distinct impression he’d been expertly played.
He glared at his phone, threw it on the passenger seat, tugged the hood of his sweatshirt over his head, and peered through the windscreen. The torrential rain had eased to just plain heavy, which anyway you looked at it still meant fucking wet. He threw open the door of the Everest, sprinted to the mailbox to retrieve its only contents—a sodden local newspaper whose editor wrote dubious commentaries on local events—lost his hood on the way back, and leapt back into the car to drip water all over his clean leather seats.
“Son of a miserable cock-sucking, perfidious dickhead.” He dried his hands on his jeans and threw the Everest into gear, only then remembering the truck at the far end of the drive. His jaw set. “Right, let’s see who this wanker is.”
He got to where the driveway split in two and came to a stop. There was no way he was getting round the corner into his property with the truck blocking his way. The cab was empty with no one in sight, and he wasn’t about to go swimming looking for the driver. A fitting end to a craptastic day.
He closed his eyes, sat on his horn, and waited. Like he could give a fuck. Someone would get sick of it soon enough.
Fifteen seconds later—
“Hey!” A fist banged on his driver’s window.
And there it was.
“What the fuck are you doing, arsehole? Get off that thing.”
Adrian turned his head slowly to the right to make a point, and only then did he lift his hand from the horn.
“You’re in my way,” he shouted through the window and pointed to the truck.
The man had to be over six feet and stared at Adrian through the rain and the glass like Adrian had lost his bloody mind. Bring it on. He was bundled up in a calf-length black oilskin which hid anything of interest, hood up, scarf half-covering his mouth, leaving only a pair of irate, startling green eyes for Adrian to focus on. Which he did, because . . . wow, Adrian hadn’t seen anything so . . . green.
“What the hell’s wrong with you?” The man’s pissy tone shattered his interest.
“Move it.” Adrian jerked his head to the truck. “That’s my property.” He jabbed a finger toward his cottage.
The guy made signs for Adrian to lower his window, and after a few seconds, Adrian relented. Halfway down he stopped. The man angled side-on to the door, putting the rain at his back and sheltering the open window from the worst of it. It brought them within inches of each other’s faces. A pleasant hint of vanilla swept into the Everest, along with fresh sweat and rain. It smelled . . . good. Of course it did.
Adrian did his best to ignore it. “You’re blocking my drive.” He avoided those eyes and settled on the man’s chin instead. “I need to get to my house.”
“So I gathered,” the man replied testily.
Adrian made the mistake of glancing up and was hit by the full force of that award-winning gaze, which stripped all the sass from his tongue. Close up, the man was older than he’d first thought, mid-forties, give or take, and with a thick grey-flecked auburn stubble, a scattering of lines at the corners of his eyes, and a soft weathering to the skin over his cheeks and forehead. He might’ve spent time outdoors, but he looked after himself, and Adrian felt the sudden need to know exactly what that skin would feel like under his fingers.
He couldn’t see the man’s hair because of the hood, but he imagined it had the same reddish tinge, stippled with silver. With a dry swallow, Adrian supposed the man would be considered attractive, to some—in that silver-fox, fuck-the-world, I’d-be-so-good-to-you kind of way. Not something that Adrian had ever found hot, though. Nope, not him.
“I think the whole damn neighbourhood ten kilometres back into Queenstown understands your need to get to your house.” The man was clearly biting back a smile.
Fucker.
“I’m Niall, by the way. Niall Carmichael.” He offered a wet hand through the half-open window. “Nice vehicle.”
Adrian stared at the hand for a few dripping seconds before finally shaking. “Adrian Powell.” The grip that engulfed him was strong and surprisingly warm, considering the rain and the dismally low mid-September temperature. “Only had it a couple of weeks.”
“Looks good in black.”
Yeah, well, it wouldn’t be Adrian’s anything if it wasn’t black: it was his favourite colour, and he was about to say just that when he caught Niall’s eye and frowned. Niall wasn’t looking at the car. He was watching Adrian . . . closely. Adrian, dressed head to foot in . . . black. His cheeks heated and he opened his mouth to say something, who knew what, but Niall had already moved on, and Adrian figured he’d only imagined it.
“If that’s your house”—Niall nodded towards Adrian’s property—“then it appears I’m your new neighbour.”
Four words and Adrian’s world fell apart. “N-neighbour?” He could barely get the word out as he reeled at the very notion. The lake frontage behind the two properties had been his private domain since he bought the cottage. His. Alone. Not another house on either side for a good kilometre. They were the last built in the area, the council running scared of the increased flood risk from the lake in heavy rain. Steep mountain ranges fell almost vertically into Lake Wakatipu and the rivers feeding it. And with only one outlet, flooding was a given.
“You mean you bought that thing?” Adrian gave a shaky laugh, trying not to reveal exactly how badly the news had affected him. “Well, good luck to you, man. The place is held up by little more than a few nails and some wishful thinking. And it doesn’t solve my problem, does it? Your truck’s blocking my way.”
“It’s not my truck.”
“I don’t ca—”
“And it’s not going anywhere.” Niall glanced at the offending vehicle. “The back wheel is stuck.” He stood back, giving Adrian an unobstructed view of the truck’s rear wheel buried to its hub cap in a mud puddle.
Fuck.
“It’s a pain, I know.” Niall did look somewhat apologetic, but Adrian wasn’t buying it. “But as you so kindly pointed out, the place is a dump. My plans are to renovate the house and garage into common areas for guests, the kitchen, and manager’s accommodation, and then add six luxury suites facing the lake to take in those spectacular views. This is an amazing spot, right? You were lucky to snag the cottage.”
I was. But renovation? Suites? What the fuck?
“The council won’t allow any more land division, so I guess it’s just us.”
Us?
“Anyway, it means there’ll be quite a few deliveries this side over the next few weeks, so . . .”
“You’re renovating?” Adrian hadn’t got much past that and the six accommodation suites before his heart damn near skittered to a complete stop. He couldn’t keep the horror from his voice, his mind flying ahead to endless days of hammering and grinding and concrete mixers. And, after it was all done, people, goddamn people, coming and going and just being . . . people. Jesus, what had he done to deserve this
